ABOUT THE CENTRE

Dhamma Ujjala (‘Ujjala’ means bright or blazing light) is near Clare, a town located nearly 140km north of Adelaide. A network of small towns, farms and Mediterranean vegetation are the key features of the Clare Valley. A prevailing pleasant climate means cool nights and sunny days.

Set on 50 acres of gently sloping land, Dhamma Ujjala is approximately one kilometre from shops and public transport and yet protected by corridors of trees and pockets of bushland.

The surrounding ridges provide a picture frame for the centre with its variety of trees and gardens. The peaceful atmosphere encourages wildlife to visit, including families of kangaroo and deer.

Facilities
The current, temporary centre buildings comprise a quaint conversion of existing farm buildings. The facilities include a commercial, volunteer-run kitchen, which provides simple and delicious vegetarian food.

There is a mixture of accommodation at the centre; single rooms, including a number with adjacent bathrooms, and some shared rooms with partitions. Pathways connect all the rooms and facilities.

Nearby, there is separate accommodation for those who volunteer to help run the courses and help build the new centre. These are new, purpose-built and self-contained facilities with a high level of comfort for longer-term volunteers.
